Revolution 250: Studying America’s Independence Story (Onsite, KS5)

Overview

Introductory workshop and exhibition visit

The National Archives will mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the US Declaration of Independence with a free exhibition opening this summer.

Alongside the familiar story of Britain and the rebels, discover more about those often overlooked in the traditional narrative – Indigenous peoples, Black Loyalists, and enslaved persons. Revolution 250: America’s Independence Story 1763–1783 will not only document the key political events and military manoeuvres on the road to American independence but also explore the impact of the conflict on those who lived through it.

Throughout September and October we are offering short introduction workshops for Key Stage Five students who are studying the revolutionary period. These workshops will feature a look at further documents not held in the exhibition to explore the concept of differing perspectives on events and get students thinking about the collection, before providing time to investigate ‘Revolution 250’ itself through a structured exhibition guide.

  • Bursary for schools, providing £500 towards the cost of travel and cover.
  • 30 minute workshop followed by self-guided visit to the Revolution 250 exhibition.
  • 2pm on Wednesdays from mid-September until October Half Term.
