What is this group and who is it for

A small, closed therapeutic group for family members of people with a dementia diagnosis. It is for anyone navigating the emotional, relational, and identity challenges that come with caring for or supporting someone with dementia,.

Is this a support group or therapy

Accepted Answer

It is therapy. That is an important distinction. A support group is peer-led and focuses on shared experience. This group is professionally facilitated, structured, and therapeutic, meaning we work through specific themes each week using a psychological framework called Transactional Analysis.

What will happen

You will leave each session with real insight into yourself, your relationships, and your situation not just the reassurance that others are in the same boat, though that matters too.

Question 4

What does Transactional Analysis mean and do I need to know about it?

No.  You will all share your own experiences and we  will use this framework to make meaning of what happened and how this impacted you. Most people find that TA gives them an immediately useful way of understanding themselves and their family that they can take home and use between sessions.

What will we actually cover over the six weeks?

The dynamics and conflict that surface in families under pressure; understanding the different parts of ourselves that show up now life has changed; the deep beliefs about duty and family that drive our decisions; anticipatory grief — the grief of losing someone who is still here

When does it run and how long is each session?

The group runs on Tuesday evenings on Zoom, starting June 2nd, for six consecutive weeks. Each session is 90 minutes. In total you will receive 9 hours of guided therapeutic group work in a small group of 8.

Question 7

How much does it cost and what does that include?

Accepted Answer

The cost is £140 for all six sessions. That works out at less than £24 per session — significantly less than the cost of individual therapy. The price covers your place in the group for the full six weeks, all materials, and the facilitation. There are no hidden extras.

Question 8

How many people will be in the group?

Maximum eight people. This is intentional. A small group means everyone is genuinely heard — not just present. It also means a level of trust and connection between members that is not possible in larger groups. Once the group is full it is closed to new members for the duration of the six weeks.

What if I can't make one of the sessions?

Because this is a closed therapeutic group Attendance at as many sessions as possible is important both for your own progress and for the integrity of the group.   If you know in advance that you will miss more than one session, it is worth having a brief conversation with me when we chat

Question 10

What is your refund policy?

Accepted Answer

Full refunds are available up to 3 days before the start date. After that point, because the group is small and a reserved place cannot easily be filled, refunds are not available. If you have a specific concern about this, please get in touch before booking and we can discuss.

Question 11

I have never done therapy before. Is this suitable for me?

Accepted Answer

Yes — this group welcomes first-timers. It's accessible, never intimidating, and you share only what you're ready to. Each session has a structured element so there's always something to engage with, however much or little you contribute.

Question 12

My  parent has dementia but they are still relatively independent. Is this for me

Accepted Answer

Yes — early stage is exactly when support is most valuable and least often sought. The grief, fear, and family dynamics begin at diagnosis. You don't need to be in crisis to deserve help. This group welcomes people at all stages.

Question 13

Will I  have to talk about very personal things in front of strangers?

Accepted Answer

Everything shared stays in the group — all members agree to confidentiality before we begin. You share only what you're comfortable with. Most people find that being with others who truly understand makes honesty easier, not harder.

I am also struggling personally not just with the caring. Is this the right place for that?
