Sarah Muwanga Solo Exhibition - Tethered: Where the Line Holds
Sarah Muwanga first solo show exploring grounded presence, quiet resistance and the strength of holding one’s ground.
CasildART presents a powerful new solo exhibition by emerging British‑Ugandan artist Sarah Muwanga. Tethered: Where the Line Holds brings together a compelling body of work — including two paintings created exclusively for the show — in which Muwanga deepens her exploration of the figure as a site of grounding, belonging and restrained force.
The title operates in dual motion: tethered speaks both to anchoring and to the subtle constraints that shape how presence is negotiated. In her mark‑making, the line becomes structural — each stroke an act of holding. Her figures are assured, occupying space with confidence and an unspoken authority, even as the title gestures toward the pressures, dependencies and frictions that inform that stance. Where the line holds extends this tension into her material language: the insistent outline, the mark that refuses to yield, signalling the labour of maintaining selfhood with steadiness and resolve. Together, the two phrases articulate a practice concerned with the quiet power of holding one’s ground and the resilience required to do so.
