Your mission is to build your own shelter from scratch using whatever materials you bring with you, then spend the night sleeping out to stand in solidarity with people experiencing homelessness and raise vital funds for Wycombe Homeless Connection.

How it works

We'll be sleeping out in the 'garden' of the Walled Garden in West Wycombe.

There is no shelter overhead, you're exposed to the elements. We did say this was going to be a challenge!

Pitch allocations will be confirmed a few weeks before the event. As bookings come in, we have to piece the site together like a jigsaw to make sure everyone has the right amount of space and that families and teams can stay together. We'll be asking you about this in future emails.

Most pitches will be positioned against a wall, which can be incorporated into your shelter design. However, nothing may be attached to the wall or cause any damage. Some pitches will be just an area of flat ground.

You'll need to bring everything you need to build your shelter. Remember, you'll be sleeping directly on the ground, which is likely to be cold and wet and is uneven and a bit rocky in places. Cardboard layers and boxes, blankets, tarpaulins, weather proof covers will be a must! You'll need to make sure everyone can get in and out of your shelter in the night to get to the loo, and in case of an emergency.

We encourage everyone to build a shelter from the materials they bring rather than using a tent. However, if a tent is the only way you'll be able to take part, that's fine, we'd much rather have you with us. Just bear in mind that people are sponsoring you to take on the challenge, and we'll need to be able to check on everyone during the night, so your tent must be as small as possible and the door must remain open.
