Heritage Open Day at Perennial's York Gate Garden

Join us as part of Heritage Open Days 2026, England's largest festival of history and culture, and explore this year's theme of Stories of Working Lives through a special behind-the-scenes experience at Perennial's York Gate Garden. This free event offers a unique opportunity to discover the people, skills and daily work that help the Garden thrive.

Begin with a welcome talk on Perennial - UK's only charity dedicated to supporting horticulturists, introducing the Garden's history, purpose and the many roles that contribute to its success. This will be followed by an exclusive guided tour led by Head Gardener, Jack Ogg and team.

During the tour, visitors will be divided into smaller groups and taken to different areas of the site, including the Garden, Meadow and Propagation facilities, where you'll hear first-hand stories about the work that takes place throughout the seasons. From horticulture and conservation to cultivation and care, you'll gain fascinating insights into the working lives behind the landscape you see today.

After the tour, visitors are welcome to relax in the café, which will be open for refreshments, drinks and cakes.
