Overview

How can we be feral in the age of modernity? Is that even possible? The body says yes. It never forgot.

Join us for a four-session online course exploring the feral intelligence of the body: how it listens, questions, adapts, resists habit, and remembers what modern life teaches us to forget.

Held fortnightly, this course invites you to explore unfamiliar ways of moving that unsettle what we think we know about our bodies. Drawing from Claire Loussouarn’s book How to Be Feral, we will practise trusting instinct before understanding, and learning from the more-than-human world.

Led by movement artist Dr Claire Loussouarn and hosted by IMT Gallery, each session uses movement as a mode of thinking and knowing in its own right, alongside simple forms of movement mapping: ways of tracing, recording and reflecting on what emerges through the body. We will explore how movement can open different perspectives, train attention, and reconnect us to parts of ourselves that have been quietened by social and cultural conditioning.

The focus will be on re-wilding the body, while approaching each immediate environment as something to be received, listened to and moved with. As this course takes place online, we will work with the spaces participants are already in: rooms, floors, walls, furniture, objects, screens, sounds, gravity, light and the atmosphere of the group.

Between sessions, you will be encouraged to continue small self-directed practices in everyday life — in familiar rooms, daily tasks, small gestures, and the body’s quiet rebellions against automatic habits.
