The Architects of Sound - 50 Years of Acoustic Design

WSDG

Two pioneers. Fifty years. One conversation on architecture, acoustics, and the spaces that shape exceptional sound.

Vorstadttheater Basel

Join legendary studio designer John Storyk and internationally acclaimed acoustician Wolfgang Ahnert for a unique conversation exploring five decades of acoustic innovation. Drawing on numerous projects around the world ranging from iconic recording studios to world-class concert halls and performing arts venues, they will share the principles, challenges, and stories behind the integration of architecture, acoustics, and audio technology into spaces that inspire exceptional creative experiences.Whether you are an architect, engineer, audio professional, student, musician, or simply fascinated by the science and art of sound, this event offers a rare opportunity to learn from two pioneers whose contributions have shaped the way we experience live and recorded music. Hosted at Basel's Vorstadttheater, located within the historic Oekolampad Community Center, the event is set in a venue that reflects the very themes of the discussion—where architecture, culture, and performance come together to create memorable experiences. Subject to ongoing theater operations, a guided tour of the Vorstadttheater will follow the presentation. Please note that WSDG will also host the same event in Berlin on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The Berlin edition - co-hosted by SAE Institute Berlin - will be held at the dasDUR Immersive Audio Atelier, nestled within the legendary Teldex Studios Berlin - a venue that has played a defining role in the history of recorded music and continues to shape the future of immersive audio.
