In September 1916, Sheffield suffered its only air raid during the First World War. A Zeppelin airship dropped bombs over the east side of the city. At least twenty-eight people lost their lives and many properties were damaged.
September 2026 marks the 110th anniversary of the raid. Join Mark Goodwill from Sheffield Local Studies Library and Sheffield City Archives, to hear the story of the raid. Mark's talk will include the history of the WW1 Zeppelin; its development, the wider Zeppelin campaign and Sheffield’s air defences.
