River Colne Volunteer Day- Tree Trimming

Groundwork East is a community and environment charity working across the East of England to change places and lives. We are proud to have been championing practical community action that benefits the natural world since 1985, running programmes to transform unloved green spaces, get people outside enjoying the natural world and supporting businesses to reduce their environmental impact.

Hertfordshire events

We host a wide range of events in Hertfordshire, there is something for everyone!

Join Groundwork East for the River Colne Volunteer Day!On Saturday 12th September, we will be hosting a series of volunteer activities for you to get involved in. Whether you are a seasoned volunteer or new, this is a great opportunity to help protect the River Colne, a rare chalkstream habitat.Tree Trimming, 12.30-13.45-This will be our first activity of the volunteer day. We will be maintaining local trees and then creating Brushwood Bundles out of the off cuts. Bundles are created to reinforce Berms that can be purposely built into a river to give it shape and stability. Silt collects in the brushwood, stabilising river banks, reducing the visible level of dirt in the channel and creating habitats for all levels of wildlife. We will be using loppers to cut branches. Saws' may be used. All equipment will be provided. Please wear suitable clothing for outdoor volunteering.
