River Colne Volunteer Day- Berm maintenance
Join us in Watford to help maintain berms in the river, an important river restoration activity!
Join Groundwork East for the River Colne Volunteer Day!
On Saturday 12th September, we will be hosting a series of volunteer activities for you to get involved in. Whether you are a seasoned volunteer or new, this is a great opportunity to help protect the River Colne, a rare chalkstream habitat.
Berm maintenance, 2pm-3.15pm
This will be the second activity of the volunteer day.
We will be maintaining berms in the river with the brushwood bundles created in the previous activity.
Groundwork staff and volunteers' will be able to get into the River Colne to add bundles to reinforce the berms created in the river.
Silt collects in the brushwood, stabilising river banks, reducing the visible level of dirt in the channel and creating habitats for all levels of wildlife.

We will be using thigh or chest waders (dependent on the river level).
All equipment will be provided. Please wear suitable clothing for outdoor volunteering.
