Herring Bridge: behind-the-scenes site visit and technical presentation

Overview

Join the ICE Norfolk Branch to explore Herring Bridge with a technical talk and guided tour of this landmark project.

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Norfolk Branch is pleased to invite members to an exclusive technical presentation and guided site visit to Herring Bridge in Great Yarmouth.

Completed and officially opened in February 2024, Herring Bridge is one of Norfolk's most significant recent infrastructure projects, providing an important new transport link across the River Yare and improving connectivity between the Port of Great Yarmouth, the Enterprise Zone and the wider highway network.

The evening will begin with a presentation delivered by Tim Ellis, Project Manager at Norfolk County Council, and Richard Hayman, Construction Manager for the BAM/Farrans Joint Venture. The presentation will provide an overview of the scheme, including its development, design, construction challenges and the operation of the lifting bridge. This will be followed by a guided tour of the bridge, allowing attendees to see key elements of the structure and gain a closer understanding of how the bridge operates.

The event offers an excellent opportunity for civil engineering professionals, graduates and students to gain an insight into the delivery of a major infrastructure project within Norfolk, while hearing first-hand from members of the project team involved in its successful delivery.

Please note that attendance is limited to a maximum of 30 participants due to the nature of the site visit. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so early booking is recommended.

Attendees will be required to provide and wear their own appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the site visit. As a minimum, this is expected to include a high-visibility vest or jacket and sturdy shoes. Further details or any additional PPE requirements will be confirmed prior to the event if necessary.
