Biological Recording Virtual Symposium 2027: Recording the Rarities

What does it mean for a species to be rare, and how do we know? Some species are genuinely scarce, while others may simply be overlooked, difficult to detect or rarely recorded. Biological recording plays a vital role in helping us understand the distribution and status of wildlife, but recording rarities also brings its own challenges.

The 2027 Biological Recording Virtual Symposium will explore the theme of Recording the Rarities, looking at how we find, record and verify rare and rarely recorded wildlife, and how biological records can help us understand species rarity and conservation status.

Through a series of talks, we'll explore different aspects of the theme, bringing together perspectives relevant to biological recorders, naturalists, citizen scientists and environmental professionals.
