About this event

Take the UK’s leading course in content design. In this 2-day foundation course, you’ll learn how to find out about your users, understand their behaviour, and create content that meets their needs.

You’ll learn from practising content designers and earn a CPD-accredited certificate. The course is taught online and streamed live from Australia.

This course was previously named Foundation in Content Design.

Why content design matters

Content design helps people and organisations achieve their goals by creating product and service content that aligns with how people:

  • process information,
  • understand it,
  • act on it.

It starts with learning about users and their needs, the language they speak and the context they consume information in. This approach can help build trust and brand loyalty with users, and it will save your organisation time and money.

Who the course is for

You should be new to content design or want to improve your skills. The course will support you in making a career change to content design or growing your skills in a role, such as:

  • UX writer,
  • content writer,
  • content specialist,
  • copywriter,
  • digital marketer.

What you'll learn

Building on Sarah Winters’ book, this course gives you the chance to go through the stages of designing a piece of content on a topic of your choice. You’ll learn how to carry out desk research, understand it, and use this information to make decisions based on data and evidence.

At the end of the 2 days, you’ll be able to:

  • understand how users think, talk and act,
  • explain what your users want,
  • visualise the journeys users take,
  • organise content across channels to support their journey,
  • understand how people read,
  • structure information to match how people behave online,
  • create user-centred content,
  • improve content by working with others.

Testimonials for this course from previous Australia participants:

"If you're going to take content seriously, it's an essential course"

""For anyone who is a writer, editor, content producer, or even developer or UX - this is a course which will help guide every decision you make. It has helped me question every slither of content that I write or produce - what it's purpose is and if it's absolutely necessary. It's given me the confidence to speak up about content's importance and how imperative it is that content design is collaborative"

"I really loved the Content Design course! It was so valuable to my role covering discovery, writing content, content design, data, and strategies to aid discussions with senior stakeholders including pair writing and content crits. It also gave me a renewed enthusiasm! Sometimes as a content designer, you begin to doubt yourself when you’re faced with challenging legal, product, risk or even communication stakeholders. It’s nice to know you’re not crazy and we all face similar problems! :)"

"This was an extremely well designed and presented course that exceeded my expectations. The facilitators were experts in their field and engaged with the group well. It was great to have an opportunity to meet Susan Cowan and the CD Queen herself, Sarah Richardson! Participation in this course has been life-changing. I have had a total shift in my thinking about presenting information. I have returned to the office with a clear vision of how the Library's inter/intranet can be presented. An unexpected bonus is that it has given my creative and non-fiction writing a nuclear-strength injection of motivation and inspiration"

"It's worth every cent. It should be compulsory for anyone who has to write anything to attend this course" "I would tell anyone working in the content space to definitely attend. It's great foundational knowledge but also a good refresher on all the steps to take before you start writing"
