Overview

A full-day DoLS refresher for BIAs, mental health assessors and paid RPRs, including AGNI and its implications for assessments and reviews.

This one-day online course is for best interests assessors, mental health assessors and paid RPRs. We will consider AGNI [2026] UKSC 16 and its implications for DoLS assessments, existing authorisations and Part 8 reviews, alongside the latest relevant case law.


The course runs on Zoom from 9.30am to 4.30pm, UK time, with breaks. Each ticket costs £104.17 plus VAT (£125 including VAT). Organisations can arrange group places and an invoice by emailing training@lpslaw.co.uk. LPS members can use their promotional codes.

Course content and learning objectives

• Apply the multifactorial approach following AGNI and distinguish the Article 5 question of valid consent from mental capacity under the MCA.

• Consider how to approach existing authorisations and DoLS Part 8 reviews.

• Update your knowledge of capacity, best interests, necessity, proportionality and eligibility.

• Examine what good forms 3 and 4 look like.

• Consider when and why to set conditions and make recommendations.

• Develop confidence in the DoLS/Mental Health Act 1983 interface.


Course materials will be available on the day. Bring your own questions and examples for discussion.
