Eastern City is working with The Insurance Museum to host a walking tour exploring the global origins of the insurance industry.
The History of Insurance Hosted By The Insurance Museum
Everyone knows that Insurance started in London at Lloyd’s coffee house in Lombard Street. No, it didn’t. Probably everyone reading this has some form of insurance but why? And why do we need it?
The history of insurance has a far longer and more cosmopolitan than most people realise. This is a journey where men have sought to mitigate their ‘risk’. The journey starts in Babylon about 1700BCE, and meanders through China, India, Greece and Rome before finally emerging as a solution to a bankrupt King’s financial problems. Initially, about long distance trade and the need for a decent burial it expanded to deal with fire losses.
Join this walking tour to scratch the surface of the industry that made the modern world possible.
