HMRC: Registering your business and self-employment

BIPC Lewisham is proud to welcome Hugh McDonald from His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to guide you through the different options you have when it comes to registering your business with HMRC and outline the key steps to take.

During this session, Hugh will share his expertise and cover:

• Your obligations to HMRC when it comes to starting a new business venture.
• What to do if you are thinking of becoming your own boss.
• The different ways you can choose to structure your business (Sole Trader, Limited Company, CIC, etc.).
• Key steps to take when registering for self-employment (as a Sole Trader) or when registering your small business as a Limited Company.
• The self-assessment requirements you need to be aware of, such as the tax system, tax payments, how to pay and when (key dates for 2026/2027).

After the general overview, we will have a Q&A session for participants on registering for self-employment or registering their small businesses.
