Early Science with the Rubin LSST

The Vera C. Rubin Observatory’s Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) is the most ambitious optical sky survey planned. Over ten years from 2026 it will build up an ultra-deep, six-band map of the southern sky, published through a series of Data Releases, with its 700+ visits to each field providing an unprecedented opportunity for time-domain discovery. The breadth of science enabled by this unique dataset motivated all UK astronomy groups to join the LSST:UK Consortium and UK researchers are making a range of in-kind contribution to Rubin operations that are earning proprietary data rights for all UK researchers who require them. This meeting will focus on early science from the Rubin LSST, derived primarily from Data Preview 2 and the LSST alert stream. Its goal is to share experience of doing science with LSST data within the UK community, to aid preparation for Data Release 1 in 2028.
