The Conservation Volunteers - Ham Woods Grassland Management

We will be working in Ham Common Woods next to St Andrew's Church to maintain a patch of acid grassland, a nationally important and vulnerable habitat. This greenspace is managed for biodiversity by Richmond Council.

Lowland acid grassland habitat contains mix of fine-leaved grasses, mosses & lichens growing on acidic, and often sandy soil. Despite being characterised as a nutrient poor habitat, acid grasslands can be species rich (20+ species).

Richmond has the largest total area of acid grassland in Greater London. Other local greenspaces containing acid grassland include Barnes Common, East Sheen Common, Bushy Park, and Richmond Park.

We meet at St. Andrew's Church on Church Road at 10am. Look for the TCV van.

There is a small amount of free parking available outside the church, or along Garthside or The Shires for those wanting to drive.

Please bring:

• packed lunch & water
• suitable outdoor clothes (that will keep you warm & dry the whole day)
• hat & sunblock
• suitable outdoor footwear (it can be muddy in places)

We provide hot drinks, so please bring your own mug (and spoon).
