The Mill on the Floss by George Elliot adapted by Helen Edmunson

George Eliot’s The Mill on the Floss, adapted for the stage by Helen Edmundson, is a moving and richly theatrical exploration of love, loyalty and the struggle for self-determination. Set in rural nineteenth-century England, the story follows Maggie Tulliver, an intelligent, passionate young woman whose fierce spirit and longing for freedom place her at odds with the expectations of her family and society.

Combining lyrical storytelling, dynamic ensemble performance and moments of humour, tenderness and heartbreak, the play illuminates timeless questions about identity, forgiveness and the price of being true to oneself.

A compelling tale of resilience and sacrifice, The Mill on the Floss remains as relevant today as when it was first published.
