Is Law and Corporate Governance Capable of Controlling AI

Overview

please join us on the 19th of November 6pm - 7:30pm

For many, artificial intelligence is the most transformational technology of the past century. For others—including some of the leaders of the frontier AI labs developing the most advanced systems—it also poses a potentially existential threat to humanity. Yet AI remains only lightly regulated. Can law and corporate governance realistically navigate between the extraordinary opportunities created by AI and the risks posed by increasingly powerful systems? Or does the competitive dynamic of the AI arms race—between companies and between states—mean that meaningful control, restraint or even temporary slowdowns are ultimately unrealistic? This event asks whether law and governance can genuinely control AI, and what effective control would have to look like.
