This Is Us: Free Community Arts Celebration & Exhibition

Dance. Paint. Make. Celebrate.

This Is Us is a free community arts season across North-East Sheffield. On Sunday 8 November it all comes together for one free celebration and exhibition at the Creative Lounge, Showroom Workstation.

Since the summer, local people of all ages have been making art about where we live: the people who have achieved here, those who have moved to the area and made it home, our faiths, our heritage and our pride in place. Sketches, stories, movement and painted name boards have grown into murals, a breaking showcase, sculpture, puppetry and giant lanterns.

On the day

• Breaking showcase: a mixed-age performance from the Industrial Elements crew, built in weekly sessions since September
• Twin murals: see the story behind the two new walls. Marcus Method's is at Parkwood E-ACT Academy in North-East Sheffield. Its twin by Leigh Redhead (Trik09, 09 Murals) is on Brown Street, a short walk from the venue
• Lanterns, puppetry and sculpture: giant willow and paper lanterns and shadow puppets, made with Jo Veal and Patrick Amber
• Shadow-puppet workshop from 3:30pm: join us to make shadow puppets and create your own stories on the shadow theatre screen. All welcome!
• Exhibition and film: artwork, sketches and film from the whole programme

Drop in any time

Come for half an hour or stay all afternoon, anywhere between 1:30pm and 8pm. Families, young people, neighbours and passers-by are all welcome. You don't need any experience, and children are very welcome with an adult.

The Creative Lounge holds up to 180 people at any one time. A free ticket helps us plan, but entry is subject to space at busy moments. Walk-ins are welcome whenever there's room.

Free, thanks to the NHS

This Is Us is funded by NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, with programme partner Voluntary Action Sheffield, as part of their work supporting community wellbeing across North-East Sheffield. Delivered by SCO CIC with 09 Murals, Industrial Elements, Jo Veal and Patrick Amber.
