Christmas Lecture: Uncorked | The Science of Wine

This is an in-person event at the Linnean Society. After the lecture there will be special wines served in the library (chosen by the speaker).

If you choose to buy a "ticket with wine", please note that the ticket includes one glass of wine. Any subsequent wine purchases will be charged.

Why does wine taste the way it does? Join Dr Andrew Wood, Fellow and author of Noble Nine: The Story and Science of Our Favourite Wines, for a fascinating exploration of the science behind our favourite wines.

Discover how history, biology, chemistry, location, and climate shape what ends up in your glass. Drawing on a decade of research and experiences in vineyards around the world, Andrew reveals the surprising science behind grapes, wine, drinking, and how climate change may transform them in the future.

Whether you are a curious beginner or a seasoned wine enthusiast, expect fresh insights, fascinating stories and a new appreciation for every glass.

Dr Andrew Wood, author of Noble Nine: The Story and Science of Our Favourite Wines, is an Oxford research scientist turned wine storyteller, Andrew spent his DPhil at Somerville researching how climate shapes wine flavour. He has worked with vineyards from Bordeaux to Barossa, and Champagne to Chile.

Join us for a wine evening afterwards, to chat about the science, history and people behind the wines we love, and enjoy wines recommended by Andrew.
