The Liverpool Milk Trail: A Free Family Adventure

Explore Liverpool, discover breastfeeding-friendly spaces, listen to local mothers' stories and enjoy a fun, free adventure for the whole family!

About this event

Discover Liverpool in a whole new way with the Liverpool Milk Trail — a free, family-friendly walking adventure celebrating motherhood, breastfeeding, art and community.

Created by The Holding Time Project in partnership with Improving Me, the Milk Trail connects ten welcoming venues across Liverpool city centre, helping families discover some of the city's most inspiring museums, galleries and public spaces.

Whether you're a new parent looking for somewhere comfortable to feed your baby, a family searching for a fun day out, or simply interested in exploring Liverpool's cultural treasures, there's something for everyone.

What can you do on the Milk Trail?

  • Explore Liverpool — Visit ten breastfeeding-friendly locations, including museums, galleries and cultural landmarks.
  • Join the treasure hunt — Children can collect letters along the route to reveal a secret word.
  • Listen to real mothers' stories — Scan QR codes to hear local women's experiences of breastfeeding, birth and motherhood.
  • Discover free family activities — Find welcoming places offering exhibitions, play spaces, family events and baby-changing facilities.
  • Walk, talk and connect — Enjoy fresh air, gentle exercise and opportunities to meet other parents.
  • Go at your own pace — Complete the trail in one day or explore individual locations whenever you like.

Why the Liverpool Milk Trail?

Having a baby can change how you experience your city. Finding somewhere to feed, rest, change a nappy or simply spend time with other parents isn't always easy.

The Liverpool Milk Trail celebrates the places that make families feel welcome.

Building on the success of The Holding Time Project's original Liverpool Audio Tour, which has attracted almost 20,000 users, this new permanent trail brings together art, public health and community storytelling to make Liverpool more accessible to families.

And because not everyone wants to use a smartphone, the trail is available as a printed fold-out map, with optional audio recordings accessed through QR codes.

How to take part

It's free, flexible and open to everyone!

  1. Pick up a Liverpool Milk Trail map or access the route online.
  2. Choose where you'd like to start — there's no fixed starting point.
  3. Follow the trail and look out for the children's treasure hunt clues.
  4. Listen to mothers' stories using your smartphone, if you wish.
  5. Explore the venues, enjoy the activities and discover the secret word!

You don't need to visit every location in one day. Come back whenever you like and complete the trail at your own pace.
