Teaching & Learning Strategies

The Standards Check isn’t just about what you teach, it’s about how you teach it.

Teaching & Learning Strategies are the elements that holds every lesson together, shaping how learners understand, reflect, and progress. When this section is strong, lessons feel purposeful, connected, and effective.

In this workshop, written by Kathy Higgins Dip DI. F Inst MTD and Leanne Condliff DVSA ADI (Grade A), you’ll break down the Teaching & Learning Strategies section of the SC1 form and learn how to apply it confidently in real lessons.

What You’ll Explore

• Matching teaching style to learner needs — choosing methods that genuinely support progress.
• Encouraging responsibility — helping pupils analyse, reflect, and take ownership of their learning.
• Understanding the “glue” of the lesson — how this category links every part of the session together.
• Practical strategies that work — tools you can use immediately to strengthen your teaching.
• Standards Check success — why this section is so influential in your final score.
