2016 Holocaust Memorial Lecture
Tue 26 January 2016, 17:30 – 19:30 GMT
Join us in the Western Infirmary Lecture Theatre for the 16th Holocaust Memorial Lecture, where we are priviledged to welcome Professor Peter Hayes, Theodore Zev Weiss Holocaust Educational Foundation Professor at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois.
Professor Peter Hayes will examine the three usual lines of argument that trace the Holocaust to distinct features of modern society - ideology, methods, and executors - and contend that recent research regarding each, in fact, proves the deeply alarming opposite: far from being the outcome of processes of modernisation, the Holocaust involved an outburst of primitivism that the forces of modernity were unable to contain.
Following the lecture, there will be a Question & Answer session.
Venue: The Western Infirmary Lecture Theatre
Doors: 5.30pm (refreshments will be served)
Lecture Starts: 6.00pm
Lecture Finishes: 7.15pm
This lecture is free and open to the public; however you must register to attend. Please note that the lecture will be filmed.
