Connecting Practice is an online facilitated supportive monthly forum (September 2021- January 2022) to help you in the intricate tasks of supervision and teaching (third Wednesday of month, 1 hr). It is an opportunity for GP tutors to develop skills and continuously improve their teaching practice through facilitated case-based discussion – focusing on developing and sharing best practice, managing challenging situations in student supervision, and making sense of what might be going on for both the tutor and the students.

The facilitators are experienced psychologists and GPs.

Please attend at least ONE session between Sept 2021 & Jan 2022

Who should attend?

We are asking all our GP Tutors to attend at least one Connecting Practice session between September 2021 - January 2022

More information about Connecting Practice sessions:

GP tutors share cases and situations in discussion with two facilitators with experience of group supervision and medical school support services.

Topics cover emotionally demanding situations such as: students’ responses to patient distress or anger; GPs sharing dilemmas, mistakes/near misses; making online placements ‘human’; giving feedback to students who are judgemental with patients or on poor performance; boundary issues, punctuality and managing unreasonable expectations; and supporting and signposting students with personal difficulties; all to develop student insight, reflexivity and self-awareness .

Sessions involve listening, validating, and problem solving through sharing. Connecting practice provides an opportunity for GP tutors to:

- develop skills and continuously improve their teaching practice – for groups and individuals (F2F & virtual)

- focus on challenging situations in student supervision

- develop and share best practice

- reflect on rewards of students supervision

- focus on making sense of what might be going on for both the tutor and students

- to develop productive, student-centred, and supportive learning environments, that models patient-centred care
