Help build the World's largest-ever plane made out of foamboard

The Giant Foamboard Aircraft (GFA) is an ongoing educational project at the University of Manchester aimed at encouraging innovation in structural design through development of a 20kg class fixed-wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) made primarily from a paper/foam sandwich material called foamboard. The goal is that an aircraft can be built in a single day by a large team of volunteers with little or no previous experience. We are currently at the stage of developing manufacturing processes and component prototyping. Flight tests are scheduled for June-July 2021 at Snowdonia Aerospace Centre.There will be a crowd build event on Monday 20th December 2021 (Monday after teaching finishes) in MECD GA.037 to which anyone interested is invited. The aim of this event for us is to try out our new training materials and speed-building techniques, with a goal of building a complete wing and front fuselage. For participants, it will be an opportunity to take part in building a real aerospace structure that will eventually go to flight. Feel free to attend for as long or as short as you like. No preparation or previous experience required.Drink/lunch voucher redeemable at a MECD cafe will be provided for attendees (subject to confirmation)
