Description

20th Raspberry Jam at the Gartner UK HQ offices

The Egham Raspberry Jam is an opportunity to share what you have built as well as an opportunity to learn from others. It is a family friendly event focused on sharing ideas and expertise.

WORKSHOP DETAILS:

2:15 - 3:15: graft - Developed and delivered by Andy Balaam
Make animations to illustrate a story about a space explorer called Poppy. We will make animations by typing in code in a new animation language called Graft (https://github.com/andybalaam/graft). No coding experience is required - we will walk you through every step. If you do know some coding, there will be plenty of chances to experiment and make your own animations.

3:30 - 5:00: AstroPI Mission Zero. Deliveed by James Preece. Learn to program the SenseHat and have your code submitted to be run in the Internation Space Station.(https://astro-pi.org/missions/zero/)
Workshop is open to 14 and under and will be in conducted team in teams of at least two. If there is only one of you then we will make sure you are included in a team.
Egham Jam will register as mentors and manage submission of the code to the Mission Zero program. To facilitate this and to provide communication back to the teams we will need the email address for a parent/guardian.

Pre-registration is required for both workshops using this short form. https://goo.gl/forms/ojax2cPrJ7nIY63D2

We do not ask for or require any personal information for the children in the form and will discuss with the parent/guardian the AstroPi Mission Zero logistics on the day so any and all questions can be addressed.

Previous workshops have been.

  • Traffic lights with Scratch and Python
  • Lighting up the SenseHat using Scratch and Python
  • NoPi Electronics: Making LEDs blink without any programming
  • Shakey Shakey: Making a game using tilt sensors

Watch this space for the announcement for the workshops. As you'd expect we're limited on the number of people that can attend a workshop by the number of Raspberry Pis available so it is essential to register once the details are announced.

Additional Details for the event.

REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE TO PROMOTE EGHAM RASPBERRY JAM

At previous Jams some people mentioned they were surprised the Jam was running so lon as they had only just heard about it. It you believe the Egham Raspberry Jam is a good thing and more people should know about it please spread the word. Maybe mention in any school or local Facebook groups you are a member of. The goal is to give as many people the opportunity to try out digital making and see if it's for them. So, the more who get the opportunity the better.
