Meet the Artist, Komal Madar - Ealing Community Canvas Art Play Exhibition

Ealing’s High Streets Task Force is a partnership between Ealing Council and local business community, including the three business improvement districts (Acton BID, Make It Ealing, and InWest Ealing BID), Pitshanger Village Traders Association, Southall Communities and local business owners.The group aims to support businesses and increase public confidence in the high street, ensuring that Ealing’s local businesses and town centres not only adapt and survive, but also diversify and thrive following the challenges of the pandemic. The group meets monthly to discuss key issues and drive improvements for the borough’s high streets.

As part of the Ealing Community Canvas Art Play Exhibition, you are invited to meet, and hear from local artist Komal Madar.

OPEN Ealing

A series of four community artworks, created by residents as part of the Love Ealing, Lovel Local events programme will go on display at <a href="https://openealing.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Open Ealing</a> in Dickens Yard, Ealing over the weekend of 27th and 28th November.

As part of the exhibition (all details <a href="https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/ealing-community-canvas-art-play-exhibition-at-open-ealing-tickets-210895573337" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">here</a>) of artworks, themed around what residents love about Ealing&#x27;s high streets and areas, guests are invited to a &#x27;Meet the Artist&#x27; session with local artist Komal Madar, who oversaw the project. In this free-to-attend session, Komal will introduce the project and concept, whilst talking through the process and giving insights into what we see on each canvas. Komal will introduce her own approach to art, and how her heritage and childhood spent surrounded by the colours, wonderful fabrics music, dance, food and festivals of Southall helped shape this.

A glance at the canvas created in Southall depicts elements of local culture including national flags, a Sikh Woman and Man, Punjabi script, and local businesses.

The Community Canvas project was aimed at younger residents, and open to all, and invited visitors to draw, doodle and sketch what they loved about Ealing&#x27;s high streets and areas. The pieces each speak to the communities who created them. Event guests will also have the opportunity to ask Komal questions, whilst being able to enjoy the 4 canvases displayed together.EVENT PARTNERS

<a href="https://www.komalmadar.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Komal Madar</a> (pictured above) is a British Indian mixed-media artist, educator and therapeutic art coach who spent her childhood growing up near Southall and immersed in the local community, surrounded by lots of colours, wonderful fabrics music, dance, food and festivals. Komal now works from Stewkley House Art Studios in Perivale. Komal is a twice-shortlisted artist at La Galleria Pall Mall for the Royal Arts Prize exhibition in London, and the Art Rooms exhibition in Rome.

<a href="https://openealing.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Open Ealing </a>-'the home of creativity in Ealing' - is an arts organisation based in Dickens Yard, Ealing, that has been delivering a programme of creative projects and activities for over 10 years. Open Ealing aims to create a refreshing cultural space, and introduce exciting arts programme to the community and offer activities and events to people of all ages, and all levels of ability.

TICKET INFORMATIONGuests are asked to book tickets in order to guarantee their place at the meet the artist session, however there will be a limited number of places available for walk-ins on the day. Tickets are free and include access to the exhibition.
