The second of Connected Voice's Networking Events for Spring 2022, bringing together the VCSE of Newcastle and Gateshead

Connected Voice brings together the voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations serving Newcastle and Gateshead with the second of our Spring 2022 Networking Events.These events:<ul><li>Showcase and celebrate best and innovative practice</li><li>Inspire participants with new ideas and ways to meet the needs of their communities</li><li>Connect people and organisations to forge new partnerships and ways of working together to the same goals</li></ul>This time we're focusing on the variety of ways that VCSE organisations are engaging with or providing food here in the North-East. We'll be looking at a whole range of food-related issues that the local VCSE addresses - Access, poverty, reducing waste, food education and skills, and routes into volunteering and employment, and more.For the first time in over two years, this will be an in-person event. Although restrictions have been lifted, we encourage participants to:<ul><li>Be mindful and respectful of those who may be vulnerable or anxious</li><li>Don't attend if you have symptoms of COVID, or have had recent exposure</li><li>Wear a mask when arriving and moving around</li></ul><ul><li>We also encourage those who are able to take a Lateral Flow Test on the morning of the event </li></ul>We'll have a range of speakers from food specific VCSE organisations, and mainstream organisations working to support people in their engagement with the many issues around food - amongst beneficiaries, volunteers, staff and trustees. Confirmed speakers so far:Magic Hat Cafe/Project Bind - Our hosts - Newcastle’s not-for-profit food waste hub that believes in positive, creative approaches to reduce food waste and drive behaviour change. Nourish Food School - shaping a world where food is a positive part of everyday life, associated with enjoyment, achievement and great memories that influence future behaviours and establish a good relationship with food for both physical and emotional wellbeing Gateshead Healthy Weight Alliance - Gateshead was one of the first areas regionally to sign up to the Healthy Weight Declaration, adopting a systems-wide strategic approach, including VCSE partners . It is focused on population level interventions to address the social, environmental, economic and legislative factors that affect people’s ability to change their behaviour. Food Newcastle - An independent partnership of businesses, organisations and individuals with an interest in various aspects of good food, sharing information and taking action to create a healthier food culture.Gibside Community Farm - A members’ co-operative - growing fresh, tasty, fruit and veg to nourish the soul and the soil, and supporting people to develop their knowledge and skills in growing food.St.Vincent's Centre Newcastle - A community centre and venue run by the St Vincent de Paul Society for the people of Newcastle. It also runs the newly-refurbished Vinnie's café, a weekly drop in free lunch service where we feed the local homeless population and offer pay-as-you-please meals and drinks. Vinnie's is also working to support local refugees and asylum seekers with appropriate food and support.It's the perfect platform for sharing the experiences of your VCSE organisation in delivering innovative, successful projects engaging with food - and learning from the experiences of others. We also want to hear of any challenges you've faced in delivery - including any you've not been able to overcome. There'll also be:<ul><li>Greggs Foundation - With a focus on their Breakfast Clubs</li><li>An update from Connected Voice Haref about our Ramadan Calendars</li></ul><ul><li>Workshops with very practical outcomes for your own organisation.</li><li>Coffee and cake from our hosts at Magic Hat Cafe (their kitchen won't be open for lunch service, but you're welcome to bring your own lunch and eat in the venue)</li></ul>Follow us on Twitter @ConnectedVoice_ #ConnectWithFoodNENote: Connected Voice is the voluntary sector infrastructure support organisation for Newcastle and Gateshead in the North-East of England. Free places at this event will be prioritised for VCSE organisations serving this part of our region.
