In light of the recent COP26 event in Glasgow, this month’s webinar will consider how the outcomes of COP26 could impact our cyber security.

What are the key outcomes from COP26 and what significance do they have to the cyber security and cyber technical industries? What are the implications of stronger and faster environmental protection on the already rapidly changing technology and security industries? What are the first steps for businesses to prepare for this escalating state of change? What is University of Gloucestershire doing to assist? Join us and get involved with some of our leading University of Gloucestershire academics Dr. Jon Furley, Sustainability Operations Manager and Ali Al-Sherbaz, Associate Professor in Network Security as they review and consider the implications of COP26 to the cyber security industry and the key touch points between environmental protection and cyber security. About our Academics:Dr Jon Furley – Sustainability Operations Manager at University of GloucestershireJon studied Materials Science at Brunel University where he gained a BSc, MPhil and PhD. He then spent 5 years working in the electronics industry developing manufacturing processes before taking up an opportunity to move into Environment, Health and Safety Management. From 1999 to 2020 Jon worked for Smiths Aerospace and GE Aviation becoming the EHS Leader of the Bishops Cleeve Campus in 2008.In April 2020 Jon took the role of Sustainability Operations Manager at the University of Gloucestershire. Jon is responsible for improving sustainability practice and environmental management across the University and its core operations at all sites. In his role as the University’s carbon manager, Jon is driving emissions reductions and energy efficiency through development and delivery of the Carbon Net Zero Strategy. Jon is also the Environmental Management System manager, responsible for maintaining ISO 14001: 2015 accreditation and ensuring effective policy and performance improvement in areas such as technology use, waste management, cross-campus travel and biodiversity planning.Dr Ali Al-Sherbaz - Academic Subject Lead of Technical and Applied Computing at University of GloucestershireDr Ali Al-Sherbaz as Associate Professor in Network Security and Academic Subject Lead (ASL) of the University of Gloucestershire’s Technical and Applied Computing, has over 25 years both theoretical and practical experience in network and cyber security. He has been heavily involved in driving excellence in academic research as well as the development of business, government and education partnerships in the EU, Middle East, India and China. Ali’s experience makes him an ideal choice to explore how the University of Gloucestershire can continue to adapt to the changing needs of a sustainable business environment and produce competent, business ready professionals able to face the security challenges ahead.
