In light of the controversy about the 2026 legal deadline on identifying Rights of Way, action is more urgent than ever, the subject of publicity campaigns and research agendas – including Oxford Brookes’ own ‘In All Our Footsteps: Tracking, Mapping and Experiencing Rights of Way in Post-War Britain’. The coronavirus pandemic has encouraged people to go for daily walks, especially during lockdown. Following this there has been a great deal of discussion about walking and post-Covid recovery in terms of both mental and physical health. But encouraging the nation to embrace an outdoor lifestyle has come with many obstacles which have frustrated governments in the past. Walking, cycling and riding in the countryside is dependent on owning a private car, or public transport options that might be scarcer in an age of public expenditure restraint. It also relies on legal Rights of Way that have often fallen into disuse or disrepair.This event should appeal to all keen walkers, runners, cyclists and riders, as well as anyone interested in the history and practice of physical exercise, health and wellbeing.Part of<a href="https://www.brookes.ac.uk/think-human/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Think Human Festival</a>
