Join ATI2’s next Cornwall Innovation Club: Protecting your Innovation, where we will discuss and explore the different legal mechanisms which businesses can put in place to protect what’s unique about your business, it’s products, services and innovations.Refreshments and a continental breakfast will be served from 8:30am, followed by presentations from the following experts:Dr Matthew GreenwoodSenior Partner at Bryers LLPMatt has a degree in Biological Sciences from Leicester University and a PhD in Biochemistry/Genetics following a research programme conducted at the National Institute for Medical Research. He began his career at BRYERS in 1997 and, after gaining three years’ specialist experience working in-house for a multi-national packaging company, re-joined the firm. He qualified as a European and UK Patent Attorney in 2003, became a Partner in May 2005 and Senior Partner in 2012. Throughout his career Matt has developed an enviable breadth of experience in many technical fields, including biotechnology, telecommunications and mechanical engineering. He provides clients with a full range of services, including advice on obtaining, exploiting and enforcing patents, designs and copyright, portfolio management and commercial contracts.Sonya BassettPartner - Corporate &amp; Commercial at Spencer West LLPSonya is a corporate and commercial lawyer with 20 years of experience at some of the top law firms, both nationally and in the South West region. Sonya has worked in the private sector as a legal director of one of the UK’s leading energy efficiency businesses. A strong negotiator and mediator with commercial experience and a flexible attitude to do what it takes to get a job done.Whilst leading large transactions, Sonya has also worked on an array of bespoke commercial contracts and provided advice in respect of renewable energy issues as and when they arise. Sonya utilises her experience of running a business through the ups and downs of the government tariffs alongside her unique approach to client service to successfully assist many businesses through a variety of projects and transactions.Sonya has been recognised in Legal 500 for her work assisting SME’s in Cornwall and the South-West and for expertise in the renewables and tourism and sectors.Sonya is currently also a non-executive director of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, which operates an airline, airport and marine businesses, based in locations across West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, and chairs the Group’s environmental and remuneration committees.Jowanna ConboyePartner - Intellectual Property, Technology &amp; Commercial at Spencer West LLPJowanna is an expert intellectual property and information technology lawyer. She has over eight years of experience advising organisations on the best ways to protect their intellectual property (IP) from creation through to exploitation. Jowanna works with businesses on their IP portfolios covering trade marks, copyright, design rights, and patents.After training and qualifying at large regional firm Stevens &amp; Bolton, Jowanna moved to join the large south-west firm Stephens Scown and became known for her practical approach and commercial knowledge. Whilst there she commenced her specialism in transactional IP. Jowanna’s expertise in this area covers the full range of IP from transfers and assignments of IP, licencing, collaboration agreements, joint ventures, marketing and sponsorship arrangements.Jowanna takes pride in partnering with companies from start-ups and SMEs up to large multi-national corporations on projects such as bespoke software development including cross-border work, platform creation, software licencing, value-added reseller agreements, systems integration agreements and full IT outsourcing.
