Jaywick Martello Tower was built in the early nineteenth century to protect the coastline from French invasion. Today, it is open to the public as an arts, heritage and community space. The Tower hosts a varied programme of exhibitions and events.

The area around Colchester and Tendring has a rich history of weaving since the middle ages, with immigrant refugees from France, Belgium and the Netherlands bringing their skills to the Country.

In this workshop lead by Jane Stewart, participants will be able to make a simple cardboard loom from recycled cardboard, along with the cardboard tools needed, they will be shown how to string the loom and start weaving with wool provided by the artist. A collection of found items from the beach and surrounding area will be available to add to the weaving process and various knots and techniques can make the woven pieces unique.
