For just over a year Inc Arts has also been operating a safe space reporting mechanism, and given free counselling, mediation and conflict resolution to those in the arts and cultural sector who have experienced racism in arts organisations. Through this we’ve built up strong intelligence on common abuses within the arts and cultural sector.

Through its work with over 1000 ethnically diverse people working in the sector, diverse advocacy groups and artistic and cultural leaders, Inc Arts has identified the need for sector-wide:

Independent monitoring of inclusive activity in creative and cultural spaces
Independent reporting of non-inclusive behaviours
Transparency of sanction and reward on issues relating to protected characteristics.

We want this workshop to be an active part of the current dialogue around the development of a sector-wide mechanism for reporting bullying and harassment. We are keen to ensure that Arts Against Racism has a strong voice in supporting wider national initiatives – while also ensuring that a sector-wide reporting mechanism delivers what the sector needs on all areas mentioned.

A reporting mechanism is essential to the thinking into an effective, long-term approach to supporting a more inclusive cultural sector, and so we invite all to join us as we work out what this space looks like.
