Public trust is fragile. The root causes of the apparent decline in trust and confidence in societal institutions are not yet well understood. Covid-19 pandemic is considered a significant factor, but also the global rise and reach of misinformation and fake news, accelerated by developments in social media, also poses a risk to further erode the public’s confidence in government In this event we will explore how a trust deficit in UK government impacts on leaders of public bodies, as they engage with citizens and provide vital public services. In this event, we’ll consider; how can public bodies become more effective at improving trust and confidence? Specifically we will explore the importance of leadership and the corporate voice. We will also explore the changing nature of the employee experience for those at the front-line of public service. This event will be held at the Institute for Government. Online streaming will be available to those who are unable to attend in-person.
