Reboot: Introduction to Sound Design with Munotida Chinyanga

Since founding Clod Ensemble in 1995, director Suzy Willson and composer Paul Clark have developed a highly original performance language, creating provocative, finely-crafted work which is ambitious in scale and concept.Clod Ensemble works at the intersections where different artistic forms meet, transform and challenge each other, collaborating with dancers, actors, musicians, medics, architects and orchestras to create work which is presented in London, across the UK and internationally.Some of the theatres, dance houses, galleries and public spaces Clod Ensemble’s work has been presented in include Sadler’s Wells, Tate Modern, The Lowry Salford, Wales Millennium Centre, Serralves Museum Porto and Public Theater New York.

An online introductory workshop into the role of Sound Designer

This workshop is for people who identify as women, trans and non-binary.What does sound mean to you? In this session we will explore our relationships with sound and space, both within daily life and within experiences. We will look into how technology impacts our sonic experiences and the ways that headphones, earphones and speakers affect sound and intimacy. There will be both practical tips and conceptual ideas about how to approach sound design for theatre and performance.This workshop will take place online via zoom.Munotida Chinyanga (she/her) is an Anti-Disciplinary Practitioner and Experience Designer creating work primarily through Direction and Sound. Munotida is also a 2021 Jerwood Live Work Fund Awardee, her practice focusing on experimenting with ways to empower audiences to become active spectators and contribute to creative processes. Munotida facilitates Europe-wide connections between countries, disciplines and artists, mediating dialogue that is cross-cultural, through creating both sonic and performative experiences for audiences. Munotida studied BA &amp; MA in Theatre Arts at Middlesex University focusing on Multidisciplinary practices, Sonic Art and International Collaboration. She has worked at venues such as; Omnibus Theatre, The Young Vic, The Gate theatre, Royal Exchange Manchester, CLEANBREAK and Rose Bruford teaching on the European Theatre Arts course. She was assistant director to Kwame Kwei-Armah (Artistic Director of the Young Vic) on Tree (2019), premiering at Manchester’s International Festival. International work includes Creative Europe residences in Serbia (2016), France (2017) and Malta (2017).She is also a visiting lecturer at Middlesex University.About the seasonThis event is part of <a href="https://www.clodensemble.com/whatson/reboot-behind-scenes-screen-lens/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Reboot: Behind the scene, screen and lens</a>, a season of artist development programmed in collaboration with <a href="https://petokproductions.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Petok Productions</a>, open to people who identify as women, trans and non-binary.Women, trans and non-binary people are massively under- represented within backstage roles in theatre, film and music. This needs to change!Each of these Reboot workshop will focus on a different role, and will be led by an industry professional covering lighting design, sound design, music production, tour management and production co-ordination. These are introductory sessions for people who may not have considered these roles previously or just have an interest in finding out more about them. Petok Productions is a company led by our Production and Technical Associate Pembe Tokluhan, that aims to diversify the production industry and pave the way for under-represented people to build a career in backstage roles.
