In Place of War & UofG - join us to learn from IPOW; a charity spin out from the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Manchester.

How can we transform models of research in <a href="https://thisisshape.org.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">SHAPE</a> disciplines, and re-think our approaches to enterprise? How can we engage in increasingly uncertain times, and empower people to make a difference? What are alternative ways to approach sustainability, innovation, and entrepreneurship? The University of Glasgow's IP &amp; Innovation team are delighted to welcome Ruth Daniel from <a href="https://www.inplaceofwar.net/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">In Place of War</a>; a charity spin-out from the University of Manchester, who will discuss her experiences of spinning out of the University of Manchester and developing the charity. In Place of War's vision is to live in a world where creativity conquers conflict. In Place of War is a global organisation that uses artistic creativity in places of conflict as a tool for positive change. We enable grassroots change-makers in music, theatre and across the arts to transform cultures of violence and suffering into hope, opportunity and freedom. In Place of War started in 2004 as a research project at the University of Manchester. Initial research findings spurred practical programming. Today, we work in conflict situations across 26 countries, primarily in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the Balkans. Through an iterative approach of practice backed by and informing robust academic research, we support grassroots change-makers through 3 strategic pillars: o	Cultural spaces: we support communities to develop safe creative spaces, particularly targeting youtho	Education and entrepreneurialism: we provide a University-certified ‘Train the Trainer’ programme that enables young entrepreneurs to set up new creative businesses.o	Artistic collaboration: we provide performance opportunities for women musicians of colour, and theatre training and community performance with able-bodied and disabled actors.This session is for academic colleagues at the University of Glasgow seeking to develop an understanding of how social enterprise can offer new ways to generate impact, develop an an enterprising approach to developing your research into a commercial project whilst keeping the social and/or environmental impact at the centre of its development, and generating sustainable revenue to drive the project forwards. This will then be followed by an opportunity to ask questions and discuss tools and networks available for academics.
