Explore the impacts of trauma, share learning, tools and strategies to help support healing and reconciliation in post conflict societies

Co-operation Ireland through the OUR Generation Project are excited to bring you the first webinar in our series on Trauma, Healing and Reconciliation. This online event will feature experts who have worked on trauma and cross-border reconciliation processes in countries affected by conflict. The webinar will bring together diverse voices sharing knowledge, experience and research and will create a space to better understand trauma and healing in post conflict societies. The webinar will be hosted by David Bolton, founding director of the Northern Ireland Centre for Trauma and Transformation and speakers will include Clinical Psychologist and Trauma Specialist Dr Karen Triesman, MBE, Relational Resilience Specialist Dr Rosie Burrows and Christophe Mbonyingabo, Executive Director of CARSA in Rwanda.

<ul><li>Invited Speakers:</li></ul>Dr Karen Treisman - Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist and Organizational Consultant who has worked in the NHS and children’s services for several years. Karen has also worked cross-culturally in both Africa and Asia with groups ranging from former child soldiers to survivors of the Rwandan Genocide. Karen has extensive experience in the areas of trauma, parenting, and attachment, and works clinically using a range of therapeutic approaches with families, systems, and children in or on the edge of care, unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people, and adopted children. Karen is the director of Safe Hands and Thinking Minds training and consultancy services. www.safehandsthinkingminds.co.ukChristophe Mbonyingabo - Founder and Executive Director of CARSA (Christian Action for Reconciliation and Social Assistance) in Rwanda. CARSA is a non-profit organization founded to contribute to the restoration and development of the nation of Rwanda. Since its creation in 2002, CARSA has transformed the lives of many communities through trauma healing and reconciliation workshops, peace education, trainings in children’s ministry and community empowerment. Rosie specialises in exploring thriving and surviving through trauma and loss working with individuals, couples, groups, communities and organisations at societal level, locally and internationally. The OUR Generation project is a Peace IV funded project that provides a unique opportunity for communities, north and south of the Border, to work together to halt the intergenerational impact of trauma and to build emotional resilience and peace for generations to come.This three-year project will run to December 2022 and engage with 36,000 children, young people and their key contacts. The project will be delivered in education, youth and community settings aimed at the five Urban Village Areas and border corridor of Northern Ireland and the five Border Counties of Donegal, Sligo/Leitrim and Cavan/Monaghan in Republic of Ireland.The cross border partnership of seven regional organisations will be led by Action Mental Health in partnership with Donegal Youth Service, Co-operation Ireland, Youth Action NI, Youth Work Ireland, PlayBoard NI and Ulster University. Funding for the OUR Generation project has been awarded through the European Union’s PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB), match-funding for the project has been provided by The Executive Office in Northern Ireland and the Department of Rural and Community Development in Ireland.OUR Generation will collaborate with existing community–based initiatives to offer accessible, age appropriate prevention, early intervention and recovery activities delivered on a cross-border and cross-community basis to support the mental and emotional well-being of children and young people. Children and young people will engage in programme design and delivery, including provision of peer support, developing skills and confidence to improve well-being within their communities and act as agents of change, building peace for future generations.
