STAA Saturday Volunteering: Springtime in Urban Nature

St Ann’s Allotments are the oldest and largest area of Victorian detached town gardens in the world, and are Grade 2* Listed by English Heritage. The site covers 75 acres, has 700 gardens, over 30 miles of hedgerow and 2000 fruit trees, many of which are heritage varieties.STAA deliver outreach programmes to allow all members of the community to benefit from the site, including children’s activities on the Community Orchard, and volunteering opportunities on Urban Nature, Nursery, and Heritage Display gardens.

This session is for volunteers both familiar with STAA and those who are completely new. Come along to help us regularly, just this once, or to try something out!***Please note the early finish time on this session, to allow for a volunteer induction. Volunteers from this session who have not attended an induction yet are invited to stay for that session (please book via Eventbrite separately).***This session is part of a mini-series of practical conservation activities, where we will come together as a team to manage our wildlife areas, and learn about the technique and theory while we are doing it.Suitable for all skills and abilities: the session is practical and will focus on improving the habitat of the wildlife areas. You will be given all tools and information you need (though feel free to bring your own gloves if you like).Meet at Ransom Road entrance for 10am.Booking is essential, and please be prompt!Any questions, please email us at volunteer@staa-allotments.org.uk

SESSION DETAILSActivities include practical gardening and conservation outdoors.Booking: Due to Covid-19 we have introduced a few extra procedures to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, so booking is essential. Refreshments: Please bring your own food and drink for the session- there will be a break about lunchtime.Amenities: A compost toilet is available with hand sanitiser for hand washing.Terrain and weather: There are some hills and uneven surfaces, so please wear suitable shoes and dress for the weather. If it has been raining, some paths may be muddy. We will mostly be working outdoors.Capacity: Our COVID measures continue to be in place to ensure safe and relaxed events. Groups will be limited to a small number of participants to allow for social distancing.Extra information: Please tell us if you have any additional questions or requirements. We welcome all volunteers 16+ but please do tell us in advance if you are under 18. Parking, directions, access: Before the event, you'll receive an email with details of how to find the starting point and where to park.Due to limited shelter and current COVID procedures, we may need to increase the likelihood of cancelling a session due to bad weather, please make extra effort to check your messages if the weather looks bad.Any questions, please email us at volunteer@staa-allotments.org.uk
