The Folly

<p>Sarah Lister brings her characteristic brand of light-hearted history to bear in  this examination of some of the lesser known women of 19th century Settle. </p><p>This talk is going to take us time travelling to celebrate the lives of Settle&#x27;s female ancestors, finding out what they got up to and how they coped with the challenges that life threw at them.  We&#x27;ll discover the problems of being an orphaned domestic servant, or being the wife of a navvy.  We&#x27;ll meet some lucky women who landed on their feet and some who didn&#x27;t.  We meet some upper class women who made themselves quite unpopular and working class women who broke boundaries to have incredible careers. We&#x27;ll also meet Settle&#x27;s most notable suffragette, some awesome businesswomen and a few others too.</p>
