Suicide Safer Carlisle Action Group - ONLINE

Every Life Mattersstrives to take a fresh, innovative and long term approach to suicide prevention and suicide bereavement support in Cumbria - a county that has had suicide rates well above the national average for too many years. At the heart of our approach to suicide prevention is the belief that all members of our local community can have a part to play in suicide prevention. Our training aims to reduce the stigma attached to suicide, increase understanding of when someone is at risk of suicide, raise awareness of how to practically support someone, and the range of services and resources available for people in our communities experiencing suicidal thoughts.

Every Life Matters

Tuesday 8th February 6.30-7.30 via ZoomThis event is free to attendWe all have a part to play in suicide prevention.Suicide is a complex and deeply rooted issue. There is no easy solution. However, every action we take, no matter how small, is a step in the right direction.---------------------------------------------------------------------------Cumbria’s suicide rates have remained stubbornly higher than the national average for many years. In 2020 70 people died by suicide in our County.Every suicide is an individual tragedy affecting many people directly and often a large amount of others indirectly. The impact of suicide can be devastating – psychologically, emotionally and economically – for all those affected.Around three quarters of people who die by suicide in England are not in contact with any mental health services in the year leading up to their death, meaning suicide prevention needs to be community wide concern. It needs to be everyone’s business. It is friends, family, work colleagues, neighbours and our network of community and voluntary organisations - not just those in mental health services - who have an important part to play in saving lives.--------------------------------------------------------------------------Every Life Matters is a Cumbrian suicide prevention and suicide bereavement support charity. Our Suicide Safer Community projects aim to•	Increase understanding of suicide and challenge common myths and misperceptions•	reduce the stigma and help people talk more directly and openly about suicide•	increase understanding of when someone is at risk of suicide•	raise awareness of how we can practically support someone experiencing thoughts of suicide•	promote the range of help and resources available for people experiencing thoughts of suicide, and those supporting themOur projects are delivered through a mix of training, campaigning, awareness raising and working partnerships with organisations and individuals across Cumbria. We provide one-to-one support to people bereaved by suicide from the early weeks and months following the death of a loved one. We also provide advice, information and support to employers, schools and communities impacted by suicide
