A talk by Academic and Photographer Laura Migliorino on her series The Hidden Life of Books and her process of archiving queer histories.

Bermondsey Project Space presents a programme of events celebrating LGBTQIA+ History Month

Migliorino will share photographs from Chapter IV of her series The Hidden Life of Books. This chapter explores the GLBTQIA+ Tretter archive at The University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. There will also be an opportunity to view Queeroes of London a film by Junie Lau and Cherry Au Hon I which documents the oral histories of London&#x27;s Vibrant queer community. This event is in aid of the BPS outreach programme supporting local young people and emerging artists.Doors at 6.30( Opportunity to view the film Queeroes of London)talk 7 - 7.45Q&amp;A 7.45 - 8.15( Opportunity to view the film Queeroes of London)(Film viewing room accessed by a flight of 12 steps)The Tretter Collection holds approximately 3,500 linear feet of material in approximately 58 languages. The founder Jean-Nickolaus Tretter feared the erasure, the suppression of Queer history and began collecting everything he could for decades. He created one of the largest and most expansive archives of Queer history globally. His vision was to preserve and share this rich and important history with world, to ensure that the LGBTQIA+ story would not be silenced.

Migliorino was born in Cleveland Ohio, and grew up in a Chicago Heights, a Chicago suburb. Migliorino&#x27;s BFA is from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and MFA is from the University of Minnesota. She teaches at Anoka-Ramsey Community College as a Photography professor. Migliorino received numerous grants from the Jerome Foundation, several Minnesota State Arts Board grants and various exhibition prizes. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Walker Art Center, Weisman Museum in Minneapolis and The Minnesota Center for Book Arts. She has exhibited internationally for over 30 years. Migliorino’s work has been featured in the Huffington Post, DOMUS Magazine, Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the News Hour with Jim Lehrer, and DWELL Magazine. Queeroes of London documents the experiences of members of the LGBTQIA+ community as a way of recording queer history. This film tells the stories of 13 queer people aged 55 and above.
