Public Engagement at Queen's University Belfast, is delighted to welcome Colum Eastwood MP, SDLP, to this event in our series of 'Leaders' Lectures' ahead of May's Assembly Election (#AE22). The Leaders' Lecture Series provides an opportunity to hear from the leaders of the local parties, and to put questions to them. Talk starts at 6:00pm sharp, followed by Q&A. Doors open 5.30pm. This event will each be chaired by Dr Peter McLoughlin, Senior Lecturer at Queen's University. Questions are invited from the audience in room, and viewing online. Visitors are asked to take a lateral flow test before attending, and wear face coverings when in the venue.Please register here for a seat in the Larmor Theatre only. Online viewing details will be available at http://go.qub.ac.uk/leaders2022------Speaker Bio:Colum EastwoodColum Eastwood was elected Leader of the SDLP in November 2015, and MP for Foyle in 2019.He was MLA for Foyle from 2011 to 2019.A Derry City Councillor from 2005 until 2011, Colum distinguished himself as a tirelessly hardworking public representative. He has been a passionate advocate for investment, infrastructure and jobs for communities which have been deprived of prosperity as part of a wider economic package rebalancing Northern Ireland.In 2010 and at the age of 27 Colum was appointed Derry’s youngest ever Mayor. Leading Derry’s hugely successful and prestigious year as City of Culture, he proved himself to be an energetic and articulate leader for the city and all its people.A strong believer in social justice and human rights, Colum has been a long standing supporter of the Bloody Sunday families in their campaign for truth and justice. Colum was Derry’s Mayor during the publication of the historic Saville Report which exonerated the Bloody Sunday victims of any wrong doing and led the city during a period of immense reconciliation.
