Evidence to Impact & UofG - join us to learn from Evidence to Impact; a social enterprise from University of Bristol & Cardiff University

How can we transform models of research and re-think our approaches to enterprise? How can we engage in increasingly uncertain times, and empower people to make a difference? What are alternative ways to approach sustainability, innovation, and entrepreneurship? The University of Glasgow&#x27;s IP &amp; Innovation team are delighted to welcome Sally Good and Paul Harrod from <a href="https://www.inplaceofwar.net/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"></a>Evidence to Impact; a social enterprise spin-out from the University of Bristol and Cardiff University. Evidence to Impact is a not for profit company that improves public health.We bridge the gap between public health research and the people who need it the most, by developing products and services that maximise the impact of academic research.We do not provide ‘good ideas’ or ‘things worth trying’. Our aim is to put the proof into practice.One of the programmes run by Evidence to Impact is the ASSIST programme which combines a ‘gold standard’ RCT with an innovative approach to reduce adolescent smoking prevalence. The most influential 12 and 13 year old students are identified and trained to work as peer supporters who then have informal conversations with their friends about the risks of smoking and the benefits of remaining smoke-free.Aside from a reduction in smoking, schools who take part in the programme report an increase in resilience, connectedness and confidence amongst some of the students taking part.Internationally and in the UK no other school-based smoking prevention programme has been found to be as effective. Recommended in NICE guidance, and with a QALY of around £12,700 the costs and benefits of the ASSIST intervention speak for themselves.This session is for academic colleagues at the University of Glasgow seeking to develop an understanding of how social enterprise can offer new ways to generate impact, develop an an enterprising approach to developing your research into a commercial project whilst keeping the social and/or environmental impact at the centre of its development, and generating sustainable revenue to drive the project forwards. This will then be followed by an opportunity to ask questions and discuss tools and networks available for academics.
