Civil rights 2.0: Entrepreneurship is the key to intergenerational wealth

An event to support black history month with world-class entrepreneurs (including an NBA All-star), investors and public policy experts.

Minorities, women and working-class white men are 92% of the population but get access to less than 10% of the venture capital funding. 75-90% of the funding in the US goes to 3 states: California, New York and Massachusetts. Minorities will become the majority in 2045, but they still have mostly symbolic access to the resources required to generate intergenerational wealth. This needs to change.<a href="https://foundertribes.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">FounderTribes</a> -- the app to connect unconnected, underrepresented founders to mentors, networks and capital -- is proud to host some of the most influential thinkers on this topic for Black History Month:<ul><li><a href="http://law.howard.edu/faculty-staff/dean-danielle-holley-walker" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Danielle Holley-Walker</a>, Dean of Howard University School of Law, has been identified by The New York Times as one of "a handful of Black women in their 40s with elite credentials who have caught the eye of lawmakers" as possible Supreme Court nominees. Dean Holley-Walker is a scholar of education law and civil rights, and an expert on diversity in the legal profession and higher education. She holds a B.A. from Yale University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School;</li><li><a href="https://aeoworks.org/about-us/staff/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Connie E. Evans</a> is the President and CEO of the Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO). Connie is a serial entrepreneur and activist who has founded 3 organizations. In 1986, she was the founding president of the award-winning Women’s Self-Employment Project, the first and largest urban micro-business development organization in the U.S. In 2000, she founded WSEP Ventures, a social enterprise-hybrid organization developed to catalyze social change, economic development and community empowerment. In 2007, she founded CSolutions Consulting, an advisory boutique specializing in solutions that address social change; </li><li><a href="https://www.svb.com/profile/vanessa-kuhlor" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Vanessa Kuhlor</a> is Vice President of Silicon Valley Bank’s New &amp; Strategic Channels Team. Her focus is on helping early-stage companies grow to their ultimate potential by connecting them to a wealth of resources and people - kind of like Mark Cuban meets Tyra Banks. She has a passion for democratizing equity in the innovation community. She sits on SVB's internal client success DEI committee, serves as the operation chair for SVB’s Afro Black Diaspora ERG group and is a founding member of Boston While Black and the Valence Bonds community;</li><li><a href="https://pennstatelaw.psu.edu/faculty/eleanor-brown" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Eleanor Brown</a> is the CEO and founder of <a href="https://diversiboard.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Diversiboard</a>, which uses patent-pending technology to match tech companies with high-performing, diverse candidates. She is also a tenured professor of law at Penn State Law, a professor of international affairs in the School of International Affairs and a senior scientist in the Rock Ethics Institute. Eleanor is a Rhodes Scholar and a Yale Law grad. Her forthcoming book, to be published by Oxford University Press, roots black West-Indian migrant success in the US in the early development of property rights among slave communities and the extension of these rights to slave women in the British-colonized Caribbean; and</li><li><a href="https://www.nba.com/news/players-only-baron-davis-tnt" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Baron Davis</a> is an American professional basketball player and entrepreneur who is a studio analyst for the NBA on TNT. He is a two-time NBA All-Star. He was drafted with the third overall pick in the 1999 NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets. He also played in the NBA for the New Orleans Hornets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks. .Outside the basketball court, Davis is a businessman. Baron is now the CEO of Baron Davis Enterprises. He is also the founder of 5 Balloons Interactive (a gaming company) and Black Santa Company.</li></ul>Please join us for the first of what will be an exciting speaker series focused on identifying solutions to the funding and network gaps that limit minority, female and white working class entrepreneurs.
