Bell House is a volunteer led charity that provides creative learning for people of all ages and backgrounds. Our vision is to offer an opportunity to gather for learning, enjoyment and friendship in a special place.

Bell House is running a touch-typing course during the Easter holiday specially designed for children with dyslexia in Year 5 and 6.

The touch-typing course will consist of four days of tuition at Bell House on: Monday 11th April 1.30pm - 3.00pmTuesday 12th April 1.30pm - 3.00pmWednesday 13th April 1.30pm - 3.00pmThursday 14th April 1.30pm – 3.00pm Children who attend the course will take away a special keyboard to keep practicing on as well as continued access to the online software used. About the Course LeaderThe course will be led by Suzanne Jessel, a qualified and BDA registered dyslexia teacher and assessor with years of experience as a class teacher and as a SENCO. The sessions will be fun and interactive, focused on showing children how they can use touch-typing to improve their schoolwork, thereby motivating them to learn this vital skill. BookingThe 4 day course costs £125 (including keyboard and software license). Bursary places are available – please email info@bellhouse.co.uk for more details. Once paid we offer no refunds.On booking we will email you for further details about your child’s dyslexia, their age etc. Please note that this course is only for those with dyslexia and who are in Year 5 or 6. We do not take children from other year groups or those with other special needs.Before booking please be aware that the intention is that the children continue their touch-typing practice beyond the course so that they become proficient typists. This cannot be achieved in one week. It requires regular and prolonged practice.Who is this for?This course is for children with dyslexia who will benefit from the multi-sensory style of teaching used. To ensure this course is targeted as effectively as possible, it will be open only to children in Year 5 and 6. What to bring?●	Laptop with a USB port and ability to connect to wireless internet (if you do not have a laptop please let us know)●	HeadphonesWhy Touch-typing?Touch-typing can be hugely beneficial for a child with dyslexia and getting used to using a computer early on can be very empowering. If a child is confident touch-typing on a computer early on in their school life, they are much more likely to be allowed to use a laptop for their exams later on at school. According to the British Dyslexia Association, ‘some dyslexic students find typing easier than handwriting, as the tactile element of pressing the keyboard can help with managing difficult words.’ On a computer it is easy to correct mistakes, move words around and it is non-judgmental, giving children greater confidence.We would ask you to read the following guidelines for your visit.•	If you or any of your group have any symptoms of COVID-19, or have been diagnosed with the virus, you must not attend the event;•	We have reduced participant numbers to enable social distancing.•	We encourage you to wear a face mask (unless you are exempt) when moving around the house;•	We would ask you to take a lateral flow on the day of the event you are attending;•	We aim to increase ventilation in the rooms, so some outside doors may will be open on arrival; we suggest you wrap up warm as the house is likely to be cooler than usual;•	Hand sanitiser will be positioned at various points in the house;•	We will have a list of people who have booked so you do not need to print off your ticket;•	We will hold your contact details which you provide via Eventbrite and we may pass them onto to NHS Test and Trace if required, in accordance with government advice.•	You will of course receive a warm welcome from our volunteers, and we look forward to seeing you at your event.
