Agroforestry in the City

Two talks about how to bring agroforestry to the city - the first is about domestic gardens and private places, the second is about community gardens and public spaces.

With the UK being one of the least wooded countries in Europe, transformation is particularly essential on this island group. Agroforestry is one agroecological solution we can apply at many scales. This 2-part session will give you an introduction to agroforestry and forest gardening in urban spaces small and large.After an introduction to agroforestry and forest gardening, the talk will focus on how we can design for small or private urban spaces. Topics covered include:<ul><li>Funding &amp; Enterprises</li><li>Integrating permaculture</li><li>Types of design</li><li>Implementation </li><li>Maintenance</li></ul>We will try out an interactive exercise, to help you focus on plant selection or design. Karina will provide some take-home materials, including optional homework and a .pdf resource list of the best books, videos and websites to help you on your agroforestry journey. Meet Karina PontonKarina is a friendly and driven woman who spends her time focusing on developing regenerative systems, with a focus on agroecology &amp; rewilding. Having undertaken a BSc in Environmental Science, a year long permaculture course at Shift Bristol and an MSc in Environmental Forestry, she is focusing on practical solutions to the climate and ecological crises. Her most recently completed project saw her working with the Permaculture Association to undertake a ten-year review of UK temperate forest gardens. Karina is self-employed and works for various organisations including the <a href="https://landworkersalliance.org.uk/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Land Workers Alliance</a>, <a href="https://www.therewildproject.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Rewild Project CIC</a> and on a female/non-binary coppice team.
