AboutHOXTON 253 is a London based non-profit artist run gallery and project space, providing an experimental platform to emerging and mid-career artists.Our aim is to nurture creative talents and to build a community of artists and local residents with the objective to provoke critical dialogue within contemporary culture and society.As a green and sustainability-conscious initiative, our passion lies in creating environments that question our communal and individual responsibilities in regards to our societal and political position in the world, while also dedicating particular attention to highlighting artistic voices that challenge the current untenable system and promote a healthier and sustainable future.Acting as a cultural bridge in the heart of Hoxton, we invite local, national and international creatives to participate in our diverse ongoing program, including exhibitions, experimental and educational projects, residencies, workshops, events and screenings. The space, founded in 2019, has already proven to be a valuable platform to artists including those with non-commercial focus, producing over 50 exhibitions, events, and projects.​Our doors are open to all art lovers, artists, the local community, as well as patrons and collectors.

Solar Dyeing with Plants workshop with textile artist Zuzana Krskova / WE ARE MADE OF STAR STUFF exhibition programme

This workshop will introduce participants to natural dyeing and how to work with plants to create a range of colours.Workshop includes:<ul><li>a short walk in the neighbourhood and the local Shoreditch Park identifying various seasonal dye plants</li><li>discussion about the practice of using natural dyes for textiles</li><li>learning about solar dyeing and preparing a solar jar to take home with you</li><li>exhibition tour of WE ARE MADE OF STAR STUFF</li></ul>​Who is this workshop for:This workshop is for all ages. Under 18&#x27;s must be accompanied by an adult. Priority access is given to Hackney-based residents.​When: Saturday 12th March 2022 / 11:30am-1pm or 2pm - 3:30pm ​The exhibition and associated programme are supported by and part of Hello Again, Hackney, the borough&#x27;s cultural reopening initiative.

Held by rocks, minerals, ice and the crust of the ground we walk on – our busy surface world percolates the evidence of slow ‘deep time’ processes that have the power to pull us in and reconnect us with the vanished worlds that came before our own, and with those yet to come. Measured in millions of years, this timescale reveals Earth as a monument of destruction and disruption where boundaries between the concepts of the past, present and future blur. Geology is a long-term commitment. It is a way of seeing the world across multiple timescales whilst holding it simultaneously in the mind’s eye. By proposing we re-think our relation to temporality, the exhibition positions deep time as a vantage point which is no longer bound to the dominating constructs of capitalist time, the brief time we live, or even to the extended time of our species. A geological worldview restores attention to the way in which human and non-human agencies are all wrapped together, and points towards a more plurally determined existence.
