This is a highly sought-after session particularly for those with an interest in the UN and the career paths that lead into it. The session will focus on exploring and preparing for applications to the UN and other international organisations. It will explore questions such as: What is it like to work at an international organisation? How to prepare applications and interviews? How to approach your early career goals? You will explore these questions and more through an interactive and participative workshop, with a presentation and activities to introduce you to the challenging and exciting world of an international profession.This is a unique opportunity to learn from Michael Emery, UN official with more than 30 years of experience, Director of the Department of Human Resources at the International Organization for Migration (IOM). He brings a wealth of experience to the role including in areas such as talent management, recruitment, performance management, HR services, administrative law, career development, and change management in geographically diverse contexts including West Africa, the Balkans, East Timor and at Headquarters in both Geneva and New York. Michael has a great track record of HR innovation in the UN system, and is currently the architect of the International Organizations Career Development Roundtable.Prior to joining the IOM, Michael served in various HR leadership roles including most recently the Director of Human Resources at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Director of Human Resources at the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and Chief of Recruitment at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and in several roles over 13 years with the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO), including head of Career Development and field roles in East Timor, ex-Yugoslavia and Liberia. Michael holds a Master’s degree in Organizational Development and Training and a Bachelors of Education.
